Gone Fishin’

The owner of Blue Wave Jewelry contacted me recently to get some of their tungsten rings photographed. They sent over these three bands, which are goldtone with various types of fish engraved around the outside. Primarily a product shot, I photographed these face-on on a white background with a soft shadow beneath them. I made sure the camera was fixed at the same angle in every shot so that there was consistency across the images, which is especially important in e-commerce where you’re looking at images tiled next to each other.

My most recent photo shoot for DeBella Fine Gems & Jewelry Arts included several lovely estate mens bands. In addition to creating exquisite one-of-a-kind custom pieces, DeBella buys and sells estate jewelry from their showroom in Santa Fe, NM. The bands above are from Piaget and Cartier, and include fun spinners and rolling sets.

A custom engagement ring also tagged along to the shoot. There’s something about a round center stone in a cushion shaped halo that looks so lovely, right? I just love the style.

There’s something lovely about cuff links, right? I used to think of cuff links as the male equivalent of brooches: a timeless classic, but one that sort of got benched as we’ve become more casual as a society. Well, I’m happy to say that opinion has completely changed, as I’ve had the chance to shoot several pairs of cuff links from different jewelers just in 2015.

These are from Ann Elizabeth Jewelry, and the use of color with clean, masculine metalwork is wonderful. The designer/founder of the company is no stranger to gemology, and I especially love her use of that gorgeous chrysoprase with rubies set in the center.
